The date for the club AGM for 2021 is Wednesday 21st July. Hopefully we can meet in some form in the club bar. There was no AGM in 2020 due to COVID restrictions. Members can submit nominations for committee positions and any proposals before May 24th. Notices have been displayed in the club and been circulated to members.
There are two proposals being made this year regarding the members subscriptions and light fees. These are;
Subscriptions are revised from a base adult rate of £180 to £192. All other memberships will be set based on that increase. This is a small rise which will allow us to start to keep up with any increases in inflation.
Light fees are adjusted to £3, £3.50 and £4.50 peak rate, relative to the existing three price bands. This rise is far less than any equivalent rise in our utility bills over the past 10 years and will be reviewed each year to ensure that we maintain a realistic level of income.
The general rationale for these proposals are as follows;
Both the membership subscriptions and light fees have remained unchanged for 10 years, despite increases in our running costs over this period. We have managed to keep fees maintained due to steady increases in membership over the past 5 years. Even after investing heavily in the Phase 1 improvements to the gym and main club building in 2016, we were still able to hold off increasing any fees during that period. However this is no longer sustainable due to a number of factors around the affects of COVID 19, reduced membership levels in 2020 and also the investments made for Phase 2 improvements undertaken in 2021 to improve the men's changing rooms and bar area.
The proposed increases are now overdue and in fact were considered for being proposed last year had we held an AGM, however we delayed this until this year. Our club still remains one of the best value venues for squash, racketball and gym use in Hampshire. Subscriptions for the coming year 2021/22 will be discounted to provide some compensation for the COVID closure period ending on April 12th and May 17th 2021.
Increasing our fees is one of the few decisions that need to be voted upon by our members and we feel sure that you will all agree that this is now a necessary move to secure the future of our club. Both are being proposed by Rob Green (Membership Secretary) and seconded by Dave Moore (Chair).
Bar prices will also be reviewed in line with wholesale price increases experienced over the past 4 years since the last revision of prices. This is not voted upon and is managed by the club bar manager. Prices for drinks will still remain the cheapest of any bar in Fair Oak and Horton Heath.
